Better Crops With Plant Food:
The current issue of Better Crops with Plant Food magazine (2006, No. 4) contains a wide range of topics, from fertilizer tonnage reporting in the U.S. to mulberry fertilization for silkworms in China to soil test-based fertilization for tomato production in India. This 32-page edition also features the results of a crop nutrient deficiency photo contest just completed. Other articles of interest discuss prediction of P runoff from calcareous soils, organic crop management and soil P, K losses on volcanic soils, and balancing nutrient use for tobacco in China. Available Phosphorus and Potassium Status of Soils of Amazonas State
Amazonas State in Brazil does not have significant fertilizer consumption at present, but the area has great potential for production of oil palm and other crops. Researchers recently compiled results from over 3,000 soil samples taken during the last 30 years. They identified large areas of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) deficiency in soils.
